This week I went with on a school trip to London with my school. We drove with a bus to Hook of Holland, sailing to Harwich. The boat was very luxurius, and when we sailed back we even got a new one! Much to do on the boat; there was a casino, a bar, a restaurant, a cinema, an internet acces point, an oudside deck with bar. Our room had a television with like 30 channels, British and Dutch. A very big bathroom with a beautiful shower, and nice beds.
When we arrived in Harwich we took the train to London, and took the subway to our hotel. Well, if you could call it a hotel. The ‘windsor house’ was an authentic beautiful house (from the outside) that was being used as an place to stay during the night. Not very much in there. No lobby, no internet, no television. But that wasn’t te problem. There were to much beds on one room, and all the closets fell apart. Much rooms didn’t even had a proper bathroom, only a shower in the middle of the room. Our bathroom was as big as the room of a toilet in an airplane. The van in our room was full of dust. And don’t let me get started on our inclusive breakfast. Old, roasted bread with dirty cooked eggs and homemade groase jam. Included with a too strong cuppa tea. The days after the first day we went to the Marks & Spencer!
Well, besides the hotel our school trip was awesome! Every day we had a daycard of the metro, so we could travel everywhere through London. We went to museums like the British Museum, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, The Sciene Museum and the musicals Dirty Dancing and We Will Rock You (what actually is more than a concert than a musical, but that didn’t matter!) One day we went to Harrods. It’s like a very expensive mall. The prices will blow your mind. A christmass ball for 40 pounds is nothin’. 700 pounds for a huge teddybear. The employees ride on toy pony’s and is blowing bubbles.
During lunch, and twice diner we got money to buy it ourselves. And with a Subway, KFC, BurgerKing, McDonalds on every corner of the street, that is no problem! The Starbucks was also being found in every street. We went there once – twice a day. My favorites were the Frappuchino Starberry & Cream and the Hazelnut Hot Chocolate. We went to various streets, Covent Garden was one of them. Beautiful, with many great stores (such as the Apple Store) and we went to a terrace one day there and had lunch with tasty pizzas.
I fell in love with London, and now writing this blog I really want to go back there. It’s a shame it only lasted for one week. There is enough to do and to see, one week is to short, after my opinion. The weather doesn’t even matter. Travelling with the underground is a vast and clear system. Daycard aren’t even that much.
