Website construction

The website www.mikell.nl en the weblog blog.mikell.nl will be under construction for a few weeks. A few parts of the weblog will be removed and placed at www.mikell.nl. The weblog will only contain posts and no other pages like games, about and xtras. They’ll be stored at my new website at www.mikell.nl, that’ll be soon online!
CMS – no website without

CMS – that’s short for Content Management System. It’s a few docs you put on your website, and afterwards yoou can use it to edit, change or publish your content at your website. To give an example, this blog is made in the CMS WordPress, it’s a CMS made for blogs, but also used for websites that contains no blog. WordPress is my big favorite, but my homepage is made in Joomla. This is a complicated big CMS, bigger than WordPress. CuteNews is also a fine program. It is very simple, and I’m possible to change it my way. But I hate the fact that it shows ‘CMS powered by CuteNews’ at every freakin’ page. An other feature that rocks about WordPress, is the use of so-called Permalinks.
Some CMS use URL’s that are very long: http://yoursite.com/index.php?id=2345&showcomments=. That’s very ugly, and not easy to find for search engines like Google. User rather want an URL like http://yoursite.com/lovely-page. It’s easy to remember and easy to share

Joomla uses SEO: http://yoursite.com/page or http://yoursite.com/3-featured

Browsermonopoly (1)

Internet Explorer from Microsoft is one of the most well-known browsers, under Windows-users. That’s because Microsoft always installs the browser within Windows, for over years. But this browser certainly isn’t the best. It’s the monopoly that Microsoft was creating over the years that was causing the immense populairity.You can’t stop this monopoly, can you?
Other browsers cannot get much popularity because of the big monopoly of Microsoft, and that’s why the creators of the other browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome are angry. They want Microsoft – of course – to stop the monopoly so that they can get more users.
People that do know that there are other browsers out there mostly say that other browsers like Firefox, Opera and Chrome are much, much better than IE.
Okay, they can say whatever they want, but you need to experience yourself! That’s why I’m going to use another browser. That’ll be strange because I’m using IE over a few years now, and the browser that I’m gonna use – Firefox – is differt than IE. Firefox – the browser from Mozilla – did got an award for the best browser. Well, than it MUST be good. I’ll keep you updated about me using the new browser
Digital century

Nowdays a must-have: a LCD-tv with a digital abbo. If you want more, there is also the HD TV’s with HD Abbos, but today we’re talking about digital, because Wednesday we were the proud owner of a completely new tv. A Philips again, but this time a LCD TV with a build-in digital receiver! That’s sounds great, doesn’t it. Well it turns out that te build-in digital receiver wasn’t build-in, but we had to order it, and it’ll come next week.
With this socalled ‘Common Interface’ you no longer need a digital receiver (we have three of them from KPN*) because this time, the digital receiver is inside your tv. Your program guide still excists, and you can edit whatever you want. I cannot really tell anything about it, because we haven’t received it yet – I’m really looking foward to it anyways!
* KPN is a Dutch telecom company for telephone, digital television and internet.
Weblog multilangual

From now on my weblog, is besides Dutch, also avaible in English. You can reach the English website at under ‘Languages’ or at http://blog.mikell.nl/en. It is much work to translate everything from Dutch into English, that’s the reason why not everything is yet avaible in English. I’m sorry for that.

You stupid thing. You, with all the digits and rules and hidden thoughts. You, laying there, you, with so many of you, more than me. An illustration at the front of you. I must read you, I must learn you, I must pay you, I hate you. I don’t understand why so many people love you, and I don’t. They say that they can read all of you availble in this world. Some people have giantic rooms with lots of you, but why, o why, do I want to read text on the web. Why are they much more intresting than you? If you wasn’t there, would this post excist?
